Lake County United’s Waukegan Education Improvement Plan (available at http://lakecountyunited.org) set as its goal that Waukegan’s high schools should strive to match the county’s rate of college attendance within the next ten years. The strategies to reach this include support for the restructuring of Waukegan High School into ten small learning communities and expanding St. Martin de Porres High School to a total enrollment of 400.
The Plan also envisions opening a high-performing charter public high school to enable academically struggling students to attend college. Since last year, a team of Lake County United leaders has worked to make this goal a reality. On July 20th, we will unveil the preliminary plans for a new 600-student charter public high school to be operated by Chicago International Charter School.
Please join us for this important step in making Waukegan known as a city of educational excellence.
