The issues Lake County United works on evolve over time in response to the interests and initiative of its members and to current events. Currently the organization has the following goals and action priorities:
  1. Improve and expand access to healthcare for the residents of Lake County.
    • Action: Work to maintain a strong and viable full service hospital in Waukegan.
  2. Ensure that decent and attainable housing is available to a wide array of Lake County residents, including those with low-wages.
    • Action: Work with community leaders in Mundelein to see that at least 20% of the apartments in the Whitehall Manor complex are available and affordable to the current and future residents.
    • Action: Promote ways to expand, maintain and assure the diversity of housing options in Libertyville including on publicly-owned parcels of land such as School Street.
    • Action: Support initiatives (such as the Affordable Housing Planning and Appeals Act, the Source of Income Act and the Rental Support Program) at the state and county level to expand resources for affordable housing.
  3. Create more equitable educational opportunities for all persons in Lake County.
    • Action: Remove barriers to higher education for young immigrants through support of the federal DREAM Act.
    • Action: Actively investigate other potential solutions to boost educational equity and achievement throughout Lake County.
  4. Encourage and increase active participation in the political process.
    • Actions: Educate our members and our communities on key issues impacting Lake County. Build relationships with elected officials, the business community and other key organizations in Lake County. Increase voter registration and voting.
